Danakil Depression, Erta Ale & Dallol Toggle

From April 13th to April 22nd 2017

DAY 1

Our representative welcomes you on your arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Overnight Ghion Hotel.

DAY 2

Drive from Addis Ababa to Awash Town, which is located in the central part of the Rift Valley system 250 km from Addis Ababa, the best place to meet the Kereyu people and step into a quieter, calmer and more natural world. Enjoy swimming in the natural hot springs. Overnight at Genet Hotel.

DAY 3

Drive from Awash National Park to Samara, the capital city of the Afar regional state, and enjoy the beautiful landscapes along the way. Here we will apply for some necessary permits for our journey and then continue to the small town of Logia for an overnight stay at a local hotel.

DAY 4

We will drive to Afdera and in the afternoon receive our permits from the regional tourist office. We will pick up our local guides and spent overnight at a local hotel.

DAY 5

We will drive from Afdera to Dodom and begin our 15km walk to the Erta Ale Volcanic hills (613m above sea level.) We will arrive at Erta Ale around midnight and walk to see the volcanic eruption, which will be colorful and spectacular at night. We will camp nearby Erte Ale.

DAY 6

We will spend the entire day exploring around Erta Ale and camp overnight.

DAY 7

We will return back to our vehicles and drive to Ahemed Lale. Overnight camping at Ahemed Lale.

DAY 8

We will drive to Lake Asale, the salty lake and visit the salt workers and the merchants from the highlands. We will proceed 17km to Dalol and enjoy spectacular views of the hot springs. The hot springs contain sulfur, potash and salt and form spectacular shapes. Drive to Berhaile for overnight camping.

DAY 9

Drive from Berhaile to Merkele, the capital of Tigray region on the way to visit the Afar villages. Overnight at Mekele Axum Hotel.

DAY 10

Fly from Merkele to Addis Ababa. The rest of the day will be spent sightseeing in Addis Ababa. In the evening we will dine together at our farewell dinner, then transfer to the airport for your flight back home.

TOUR FEE AND DETAILS

The Tour Fee for this tour is $6995.00 in shared accommodations. If you prefer a single room, the single room supplement is $600.00

SUGGESTED EQUIPMENT LIST:

It is recommended that participants bring a digital SLR camera and laptop computer. A complete list of optional equipment will be sent at registration.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

A nonrefundable deposit of $1200 per person is required at time of booking. We recommend you reserve your spot as soon as possible. You can pay your deposit by Bank Wire Transfer. Bank details will be provided upon registration.The tour will be confirmed 8 weeks prior, on February 16, 2017. Please do not make any travel arrangements to Ethiopia before we have confirmed the tour. Full payment is due when the tour is confirmed.
